Welcome to our second edition of the Powerlift Express e–newsletter for 2009. We hope that you enjoy the updates and information that we provide.
The news and media continues to report on the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and that some encouraging signs are starting to appear, there is no doubt that it has been a very difficult period for businesses over the last 12 months. At Powerlift (Nissan) we are very fortunate that through our customers and employees we are a much stronger company committed to exceeding customer’s expectations.
We are proudly part of the Zuellig Group. The Zuellig Group Inc. has built upon its history for a century to become one of the largest privately–owned companies in the world with a turnover of US$12 billion.
Today, The Zuellig Group owns and manages a diversified portfolio of industry–leading businesses in Asia Pacific region. The interests of these businesses span the four sectors of: Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals; Agribusiness Manufacturing and Distribution; Agricultural Equipment Supply and Materials Handling; and Properties.
The financial year ended in a flurry of activities with a surge in demand for forklifts driven in part by the Government’s 30% investment allowance for businesses turning over more than 2 million dollars. It is important to remember that a 50% Government investment allowance remains until the end of the calendar year for businesses with a turnover of less than $2 million per annum. For those businesses with greater than $2 million, there are a number of very competitive offerings at present with a strengthening A$.
Whether your forklift is aged or new, Nissan or any other brand it is important that regular servicing and safety inspections are carried out. This will ensure that you achieve maximum productivity for your business whilst ensuring that you provide for the safety of your employees. We see safety as a priority and are currently providing complimentary safety inspections with all new service quotes.
Visit our website at www.powerlift.com.au to view our wide selection of products, services and capabilities. We have a solution for every material handling problem.
I hope you enjoy the read.

Our parent company, The Zuellig Group has suffered a deep personal loss with the very recent passing of Mr Gilbert Zuellig.
Mr Zuellig was one of two brothers who founded the Zuellig Group.
These men, through their vision and sound business acumen have built a strong group of companies that we can rightly be proud to be a part of.
Please spare time in your day to consider the personal stature of Mr Gilbert Zuellig to have left such a legacy, and also the deep loss that the Zuellig family is dealing with at this time.

Pallets are the unsung heroes of the transport industry – just imagine what stock movement would be like without them.
With tens of millions of pallets in use throughout the world, representing hundreds of millions of dollars in capital, tracking and management of their whereabouts can be a logistical nightmare.
For South Australian based company, Palltec, some innovative thinking has given rise to a specialised returnable packaging solution that is proving to be a big hit with Australian and New Zealand wine producers.

Newcastle Sales Manager
Allan has been an integral part of the sales team since 2006. Recently being promoted to Regional Sales Manager, Allan understands our customer’s requirements and is able to deliver beyond expectation every time.
Customer Greg Parry of Parry Logistics
“For us the answer is Nissan when it comes to forklifts and Allan Peacock and the Powerlift Nissan team in Newcastle when it comes to advice and on-going support…Allan suggested what we should be looking out for and ran us through the advantages of Nissan’s new 1F Series 2.5 tonne forklift. At the end of the day the Nissan offered better fuel economy with electronic fuel injection, some good new safety features, improved driver comfort and are supported by dedicated service technicians here in Tamworth.
Then there’s the really good run we’ve had with the Nissans over the years and Allan’s guarantee that the 1F Series forklift would more than meet our needs – so that was pretty well it. We ordered it in June and it was delivered in September, as promised and in terms of performance, it’s doing everything Allan said it would, while the drivers are very, very, happy with the smooth ride and ease of operation.”
Account Manager
As Sydney Account Manager, Paul has done a terrific job in providing our larger customers such as Star Track Express with sound recommendations and advice which resulted in an order for 59 new Nissan 1F Series trucks in July.
Since 2005 Paul has contributed to a vast number of our happy larger Nissan customers including ABC Tissues and the previously mentioned Star Track Express and it is this longevity that has helped develop these important key account relationships.

LIFTING PROFILE - JOTUN.
Who do you turn to when you need intrinsically
safe lifting equipment to operate in a highly
flammable production environment – Powerlift
Nissan of course.
Melbourne based Jotun Coatings Australia
recently turned to Powerlift Nissan for their
advice on replacing two forklifts with a Class 1
and Zone 1 compliant lifting alternative for use
in their paint manufacturing facility.
Founded in Norway, Jotun is a specialist
manufacturer of paints, coatings and powder
coatings for residential, marine and industrial
applications, and is widely regarded as a
market leader in these fields.
According to Jotun’s Vince Trimboli, the
Australian manufacturing facility was set-up
to be able to meet local demand quickly and
economically.
“The markets we service are fairly unstable so
forecasting demand is next to impossible, and
with extensive lead times involved in importing
product a local manufacturing capability is the
only viable alternative.”
“Last year we conducted an audit of the OH&S
issues effecting our production facility and
decided to become more pro-active with some
safety issues. The main area of concern was
our use of forklifts to move paint and tanks in
and out of the plant, as we had high levels of
pedestrian traffic and tight access through a
series of pillars that support a mezzanine level.”

Steve’s helpful hints that will save your business money
1. Be flexible. Are all your forklifts being utilized to their fullest potential all year round? Many companies are reducing their fleet size for standard operations and boosting capacity during peak periods with short term hire equipment. Although the daily hire costs increase, annual savings can be made, as the equipment is paid for only when needed. Maintenance and servicing costs are also minimized as the fleet is reduced.
2.Manage your fleet effectively. By utilizing Powerlift’s ‘Fleet Safe’ fleet management system will enable you to make informed decisions, save resources and reduce costs. By continuously monitoring performance against agreed benchmarks Powerlift Nissan can identify areas for improvement and recommend additional cost saving solutions. The ‘Fleet Safe’ system will also increase driver and forklift control, improve OH&S and risk management practices, increase productivity and communication improvement and support service scheduling, all keeping your fleet in line.
3.
Promote safe driver training. Powerlift Nissan offers nation wide ATLAS (Accredited Training, licensing and assessment services) operator training and assessment. Driver training contributes to the overall efficiency of an operation. A well trained driver performs operations quickly and efficiently and feels more valued by the company which boosts morale and encourages a strong work ethic. ATLAS driver training will improve operator safety, awareness; reduce stock damage and running cost with an opportunity to increase productivity. Impact sensing equipment can also be installed to forklifts to identify the cause of the accident and assist in damage control.
4.
Be on top and stay on top. Like a car, a forklift needs to be serviced regularly to gain maximum efficiency. By committing to regular maintenance and service inspections will prevent potential damage caused by wear and will help minimize costs. The associated risk and cost to the business of unforeseen downtime reduces as a result of proper and frequent servicing.
5.
Make the right decision. The purchase price is not the true cost of the forklift; through the lifetime of the truck it will require fuel, maintenance and labor costs. Nissan Forklift have very carefully considered the total lifecycle cost of a forklift and answered this with effective solutions for reduced cost and superior reliability.
